Notes: The West Coast Trail is mostly tough and nasty, but with enough dramatic vistas to make it worthwhile; however, this one spot is my favorite. You trudge through mud and various degrees of grossness and suddenly you enter this section of the woods where everything is just calm and quiet and all the tangle of roots and fallen trees briefly clear up, where the trees are straight and pristine and the path firm and clean. It reminded me of the gigantic forests of Princess Mononoke and the Lord of the Rings and gave me a deep sense of awe.
